Oil pulling, also known as oil swishing, is a dental health that has numerous health benefits, including healthy gums & teeth. Here's what you need to know about the tradition of oil pulling/swishing & why it should be incorporated into your daily routine (dinacharya). Oil pulling is best incorporated in the morning, upon rising & on an empty stomach, as it helps to stimulate the appetite & enhance the sense of taste.

  • Place approximately 2-3 tsp. of oil in your mouth & swish back & forth, occasionally pulling oil through teeth. Continue for 10-20 mins. (it engages the muscles in & around the mouth). You can swish while you 're in the shower or changing clothes. When finished, spit it out in a trash can (oil can clog drain) & rinse your mouth with warm water. Coconut Oil helps maintain a healthy balance of microbes in the mouth. Sesame oil (king of oils) is grounding, protective, moisturizing & calming.
